The Social Reckoning Review | The Chronicle Film Podcast Episode 69

A young woman dressed for court is surrounded by a team in the social reckoning

Hello fellow Chroniclers, it’s time once again  enjoy your regular source of film podcasting with The Chronicle episode 69. We go old school hosting with Paul joined by Clotilde Chinnici  and both dive deep into Aaron Sorkin‘s The Social Reckoning.

Great cast for this one with Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White, Jeremy Strong, Billy Magnussen, Betty Gilpin and Bill Burr. The Social Reckoning is a companion piece rather than a straight up sequel to David Fincher‘s masterful The Social Network, which Sorkin wrote the script for.

Based on the actual events of 2021 Wall Street Journal  that exposed Facebook leak by whistleblower Frances Haugan. Frances (Maddison) was one of the engineers at Facebook and in the social media’s Civic Integrity team. She discovers Facebook was prioritizing profit over safety, raising her concerns to deaf ears. Until she met investigative journalist Jeff Horwitz (Allen White) new at the Wall Street Journal eager to find out the nuts and bolts of the social media platform.

The young girl I mention in this episode was Molly Russell, who sadly took her own life in 2017 aged 14. Bullied online at instagram, if you want more info or support Molly Rose Foundation, check out there website.
