Horror takes centre stage in the latest episode of The Chronicle, the official film podcast from The Peoples Movies . In episode 58, Paul and Nick Bartlett take a closer look at two eerie new genre releases, Obsession and Hokum.
The episode begins with Obsession, the latest feature from filmmaker Curry Barker. Following the online success of his found-footage horror Milk & Serial, Barker makes the move from YouTube sensation to feature filmmaker with a dark psychological thriller. The film stars Michael Johnston as Bear, a reserved music store employee harbouring feelings for his co-worker Nikki, played by Inde Navarrette. Hoping to finally change his luck, Bear buys a mysterious object known as the “Wish Me A Willow,” only to discover that every wish comes with dangerous consequences.
Paul and Nick also discuss Hokum, the latest unsettling horror from filmmaker Damian McCarthy. Starring Adam Scott as struggling writer Ohm, the story follows his journey to Ireland as he revisits the hotel where his parents once found happiness. Bringing their ashes with him, Ohm hopes the trip will help him reconnect with his past and complete his unfinished novel. Instead, he finds himself caught up in increasingly disturbing and mysterious events.
From creepy atmosphere to memorable performances and effective scares, Paul and Nick break down whether these latest horror releases deserve a place on your watchlist.
