Up first is Sean Baker‘s Anora staring Mikey Madison along with Mark Eydelshteyn. The film focuses around our titular character Anora (Madison) or Ani which she prefers. She is an exotic dancer at a strip club in New York City. She encounters the 21-year-old son of a Russian Oligarch, Vanya (Eydelshteyn). The pair strike a chord and Quickly Ani becomes Vanya’s ‘girlfriend’ for the weekend. Out of the blue, the pair get married. When Vanya’s parents find out who he has married, chaos strikes. The quest to annul the marriage begins and Ani learns the hard way.
The episode’s second and final review covers Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Perez. The film stars Zoe Saldana, Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez. The movie features three women seeking happiness in different ways. It is set in Mexico City and begins with hard-working, unappreciated lawyer Rita. She gets an unexpected call from a notorious Drug Cartel kingpin. He has a unique request. He wants to be a woman. If Rita gets the right surgeon she will be financially rewarded and Emilia Perez (Gascon) is born. Will it be atonement, redemption with a new life?
