It’s the long overdue conclusion to the Jurassic World/Jurassic Park franchise. Is it the ending it deserved ? sadly no. Should have Jurassic Park have ended with film 3… Yes. Jurassic World where like The Transformers films. They started fine popcorn fodder only to become a cash cow which became quantity rather than quality.
Jurassic World: Dominion is set about 4 years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live—and hunt—alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures.
Thirty years after Stephen Spielberg’s Jurassic Park the franchise is nothing more than an empty vessel drained of all creativity and progression. It’s certainly overstayed it’s welcome and now has to go extinct like the dinosaurs did. I’m no fan of this franchise however I do have mutual respect for Spielberg’s original and not a single film after this has come remotely close. I now appreciate why so many people love original. One of the most tension fuelled scenes in cinematic history is the glass of water and the approaching doom in the form of a T-Rex, which still stands up three decades later. Dominion has nothing.
Jurassic World: Dominion plays like a collective story arcs that go nowhere. It doesn’t even develop the characters. It’s tedious , complexed and thinks by covering the cracks with nostalgia bringing back Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum once again. We’ll all sit back a ‘ah remember when we did this, that and that?’ we’ll just forget mediocrity. This is a mess that’s just wasted 2 hours 30 minutes of your life.
On the positive side of things we did like the story that the surviving dinosaurs. Including the dangerous ones that live amongst humanity like the animals do in reality. However just like the rest of the film, or two minutes later it’s forgotten about. There is another side story of a character which connects to the original, then once again slides into damnation.
One thing that is really shocking, was the special effects for this. They were a bit on the shoddy side. A big let down as effects and technology have drastically improved since the original film.
There is chaos but it’s not the chaos Dr Ian Malcolm wants us to embrace. The magic of Jurassic Park/ Jurassic World has evaporated. Not even the redeeming factor of Jeff Goldblum can save this unaspiring mess.
